LYNCHBURG, Va. – Two Eagles were selected as the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced the 2019 men's lacrosse All-State team.
Sophomore Eric Husselbaugh was named first team at attack, the first Eagle player to earn first team All-State laurels. Senior LSM Jake Truman, who in 2017 became the program's first-ever All-State selection, added his second career second team honor.
Husselbaugh was an honorable mention USILA All-American and second team All-ODAC selection this spring. With 87 points on 54 goals and 33 assists, he led the ODAC in scoring and set new school single season marks in all three categories. He also added 40 ground balls.
He was named to the USILA National Team of the Week after recording nine points in consecutive conference victories vs. Shenandoah and Virginia Wesleyan, Bridgewater's two closest competitors for the ODAC's final playoff spot. He followed that with four goals and two assists in another important league win at Guilford.
Husselbaugh then scored the game-winner in the program's best win to date- tallying on a crease dive with 21 seconds remaining in BC's 14-13 victory over Hampden-Sydney. He finished with a hat trick in that game, and added four points in an ODAC quarterfinal matchup against the Tigers.
Truman was a second team All-ODAC and honorable mention IMLCA All-Region selection. He ranked second in the ODAC with 36 caused turnovers and ranks second in program history in the category (82). He added 73 ground balls (ninth in the conference, also moving to second all-time at Bridgewater in the category), and scored eight long-pole goals.
He totaled a season-high six caused turnovers to go with seven ground balls in an early season win vs. Wilkes. When ODAC play started, Truman recorded six ground balls against both Roanoke and Virginia Wesleyan, before scoring a third quarter hat trick in a comeback upset win vs. Hampden-Sydney. He also had a four-CT, seven-GB performance vs. Randolph.
