FERRUM, Va. - Bridgewater College defeated Ferrum College, 2-1, Wednesday to improve to 5-0 in the ODAC, the first time in program history the team has opened conference play with five straight wins.
The Eagles took the lead in the 31st minute when Thomas White headed a pass from Leo Alcantara past the Ferrum keeper for a 1-0 Bridgewater lead. The goal was the 10th of the season for White, who leads the ODAC in goals with 10 and points with 24.
Bridgewater held a 1-0 lead at the half and increased the margin in the second half with a goal in the 61st minute. Alcantara picked up his second assist of the game when his pass led to a goal for Marc Almeida, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Ferrum made it a one-goal game when Graham Holley scored in the 77th minute, cutting the Eagles lead to 2-1.
The Panthers put two shots on goal in the closing minutes, but Eagles' keeper Quentin Boric was in position for the save each time, preserving the 2-1 victory.
The Eagles are in sole position of first place in the ODAC standings with their 5-0 record and 15 points. Lynchburg is the only other team without a conference loss as the Hornets are 4-0 mark with 12 points.
Bridgewater, now 8-3 overall, is back in action Saturday morning when the Eagles host Randolph College on Senior Day. Bridgewater seniors Quentin Boric, Charles Francillon, Jacob Heiston, Matthew Pagano, Marc Almeida and Jonathan Min will be recognized at haltime of Saturday's conference contest. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m.
