ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - St. Mary's College scored two early goals Saturday afternoon and the Seahawks went on the defeat the Bridgewater College Eagles, 4-1, on day one of the Seahawks Classic.
The hosts scored in the eighth minute of play when Khalid Balogun converted a penalty kick for a quick 1-0 Seahawks' lead.
Anoi Hindle pushed the Seahawks' lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 12th minute.
Just 31 seconds after the Hindle goal, the Eagles were right back in contention when Luke Lowry scored his first collegiate goal to pull Bridgewater to within 2-1.
Balogun scored his second goal just four minutes into the second half to give the Seahawks some cushion with a 3-1 lead. Balogun completed his hat trick with a goal in the 89th minute for the final 4-1 margin.
The host team held a slight edge in total shots, 17-14, and a strong advantage in corner kick opportunities with a 9-1 margin.
Bridgewater goalkeeper Colin Rouaud finished the contest with nine saves while Seahawks' keeper Patrick Paolini recorded seven saves.
The Eagles are back in action Sunday afternoon when they face Salisbury on day two of the Seahawks Classic.
