BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Virginia Wesleyan scored three goals in the second half Tuesday to defeat Bridgewater College 3-0 in the regular season finale for both squads.
Bridgewater will be back in action Friday when they open ODAC tournament play in No.8 seed vs. No. 9 seed play-in game. The Eagles, the No. 9 seed, will travel to Lynchburg to play Randolph College. The two squads played this past Saturday with Randolph taking a 2-0 victory on its home pitch.
Both Bridgewter and Virginia Wesleyan finished with five shots in the opening half that ended in a scoreless tie. The Marlins took control of the contest in the second-half with a 10-2 shot advantage that resulted in three goals.
Marlins' leading scorer Scott Signorelli scored just three minutes into the second half off a pass from Shaun Brooks, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
In the 57th minute, the Eagles were whistled for a foul just outside the box and the Marlins took advantage when Michael Nocera scored on the free kick, making the score 2-0.
The Eagles had their best chance to score in the 71st minute when a foul call against the Marlins gave the Eagles a free kick from just outside the box. Leo Alcantara hit the shot but it was just wide of the post.
Virginia Wesleyan scored its final goal in the 77th minute on a shot from Devin Wallace.
Bridgewater finishes the 2019 regular season with a 5-11-1 overall record and a 3-5 mark in the ODAC.
