BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Virginia Wesleyan led 2-1 after doubles play Saturday and then won five of the six singles matches to defeat Bridgewater 7-2 in ODAC men's tennis action played on Mapp Courts.
The Marlins took the first doubles point when Timothy Tep and Anthony Wilson defeated Nicholas Kiser and Robert Williard 8-1 at the No. 3 doubles position. No. 2 doubles also went the Marlins way as Paul Gladstone and Michael Portera stopped Freddie Roberts and Sonet Gandhi 8-4.
Secord picked up Bridgewater's final point with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Gladstone at the No. 1 singles slot.
The Marlins won the remaining five singles matches, all in straight sets. Tep downed Gordon 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while Andreas Combos turned back Roberts 7-5, 6-0 to win at No. 3. Gunther blanked Gandhi at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Wilson shut out Kiser 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Perry defeated Tyler Kolaskie 6-1, 6-0 to take the point at No. 6.
