Hampden-Sydney Defeats Eagles

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Hampden-Sydney blanked the Bridgewater College Eagles, 9-0, Thursday afternoon in ODAC men's tennis action.

The Tigers took the early lead by sweeping the doubles competition.

Matthew and Michael Moody were victorious at No. 1 doubles, defeating Canon Secord and Matthew Gordon 8-3. At No. 2 doubles, Grayson Burns and William Driskill held off Bridgewater's Freddie Roberts and Sonet Gandhi 8-4. Clark Cummings and Tyler Brice rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles over Robert Williard and Nicholas Kiser.

The Tigers won two of the singles matches in split sets.

At No. 1 singles, Matthew Moody edged Secord 7-5, 3-6, 1-0. Moody won the tiebreaker 10-3. Driskill held off Gandhi 4-6, 6-4, 1-0, winning the deciding tiebreaker 10-5.
 
Hampden-Sydney won the remaining four singles matches in straight sets.
 
Michael Moody defeated Gordon 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 2 position while Burns stopped Roberts 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Cummings downed Kiser 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and Brice blanked Tyler Kolaskie 6-0, 6-0 to take the point at No. 6.
