Seniors Lead Men's Track and Field At Bast-Cregger Invitational

SALEM, Va. - Seniors Davonta Womack, Johnny Haizel-Cobbina, and Jamie Hiegel all posted wins as men's track and field opened the 2019 season at the Bast-Cregger Invitational in Salem. 

Womack picked up where he left off in the 2018 outdoor season, winning the 60m with a time of 6.90. Dirk Jones also made the 60m finals, finishing in 7th at 7.20.

Haizel-Cobbina picked up the win in the mile as he crossed the finish line at 4:38.42. The win is the senior's first individual indoor win of his Bridgewater career. 

Kenny Sullivan also competed in the mile, finishing in 12th with a time of 4:58.92. 

Hiegel continued his momentum from the fall cross country season with a win the 3000m clocking in at 8:39.15, nearly 20 seconds faster than the second place finisher.

Three Eagles competed in the 400m finals. Freshman Dianté Cannon placed seventh at 52:37 followed by fellow freshman James Mayo in tenth at 52.94 and junior Christopher Moore in 16th at 53.99. 

Cannon also took second in 200m as he crossed the finish line at 22.79, along with Mayo who finished in fifth at 23.20. Classmate Griffin Simpson took 37th at 27.59.

Freshman Chris Atkins took 3rd in the 600m with a time of 1:28.20. Moore and Sullivan also competed in the 600m finals. Moore took 5th at 1:30.04 with Sullivan right behind at 7th in 1:31.61.

The Eagles had three throwers in the finals. Reginald Patterson III took 19th in the shot put, followed by Michael Lotts in 20th and Michael Clift in 27th.

The men's track and field team returns to action after the New Year on January 12 at the F&M Coach I Invitational in Lancaster, Pa.
