Track and Field Starts VMI Winter Relays Strong

LEXINGTON, Va.- The Bridgewater College men's and women's track and field teams had a strong showing on day one of the VMI Winter Relays.

Senior Corey Huffman led the throwers with a 19th place finish in the weight throw (12.67m/41"57'), while classmate Brandon Christian performed a 13.29m/43"60' triple jump for a fifth place finish. 

On the women's side, Chloe Ferguson placed 18th in the shot put (10.71m/35"14').

James Mayo ran a 52.25 400m with Andre Martin right behind at 52.30. Kacee Hooker continues to have a strong first season with the Eagles, running a 1:00.12 400m for 22nd place. The freshman was one of the top Division III runners in the event.

Chase Rosenthal (8.77) and Emily Valle (9.18) both advanced to the semifinal round of the men's and women's 60m hurdles in a field stacked with Division I competitors. Anthony Lovelace represented the Eagles in 60m semifinal (7.16).

The Eagles return for day two of the meet tomorrow. Bridgewater will be represented in the men's long jump, shot put, pole vault, mile, high jump, and 200m. The women's team will have athlete's featured in the 800m, long jump, weight throw, and 200m.
