Eagles Sweep Individual Titles As Both Teams Take Third At ODAC Championships

WINCHESTER, Va. - Jamie Hiegel and Calista Ariel both took the top spot at the ODAC Championship meet to earn the men's and women's individual titles. Their top finishes help lead both the men and the women to third place finishes at the conference meet.

The men earned 79 points to put them in third place for the second year in a row. Washington and Lee grabbed the top spot with 27 points and Lynchburg finished second with 60 points. Hiegel defends his title from a year ago to become a two-time ODAC Champion, running the 8K in 25:24.9. Hiegel's time was over 30 seconds faster than the second place competitor. 

Robert Theimer also had an outstanding meet after finishing in 26:52.3 to earn 9th place and All-ODAC honors. Johnny Haizel-Cobbina was the next Eagle to finish, running a 27:52.5 for 22nd. One spot behind was Joshua Wilt in 23rd with a 28:10.8.  John Denlinger ran a 28:26.5 for 28th place. Rounding out the Eagle men were Noah Howell in 37th with a 28:55.5 and Kenneth Sullivan in 41st with a 29:20.2.

The women took home third, improving from their fourth place finish a year ago. Washington and Lee also captured the women's title with 34 points followed by Lynchburg with 39 points. Ariel shined as she took home her first ODAC title, running the 6K in 22:16.8. The junior was just two seconds faster than the second place finisher. 

English Jackson and Jenna Rea earned All-ODAC honors after their 10th and 11th place finishes, respectively. Jackson ran a 23:38.0 with Rea finishing in 23:39.4. Freshman Lynsey Taylor finished in 38th with a 26:05.1 while classmate Charis Barnes ran a 26:10.0 for 41st place. Senior Sidney Hinkle finished in 58th with a 28:08.3, and Grace Dellinger rouned out the Eagle contingent in 60th with a 28:12.6. 

The Eagles season is not done just yet. The top runners return to course November 10 for the NCAA South-Southeast Regionals in Rome, Georgia.
