BRIDGEWATER - Roanoke took both ends of an ODAC doubleheader from Bridgewater on Wednesday, winning 6-0 and 9-0.
Roanoke improved to 18-12 overall and 5-3 in the ODAC while the Eagles dropped to 13-11, 1-3 in conference play.
A two-run double by Taylor Carter gave the Maroons a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the first game and a run-scoring single by Kate Priester in the third put the visitors on top 3-0.
The Eagles threatened in the bottom of the third inning when Brianna Whorley led off with a walk and moved to second on a one-out single by Lindsey Talley. Roanoke pitcher Emily Salisberry retired the next two batters to snuff out the rally.
Trailing 4-0, Bridgewater loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning. Carlita Tibbs led off with a double and moved to third on a one-out single by Stephanie Carroll. Carroll was forced out at second on a ground ball to third and Tibbs was forced to stay put on the play. Carolyn Campbell walked to load the bases, but Salisberry retired pinch-hitter Victoria Gontarz on a fly ball to center, keeping the Eagles scoreless.
Talley had two of Bridgewater's five hits in the opener.
Roanoke pitcher Teresa Wagner limited the Eagles to three hits in the second game that was stopped after five innings.
Roanoke used six hits along with three Bridgewater errors in the second inning to take control of the second game with six early runs.
Bridgewater is scheduled to be back in action Sunday when they host Randolph College. Due to weather concerns this weekend, that doubleheader could be rescheduled. Check www.bridgewatereagles,com for the latest updates and schedule changes.
