STAUNTON, Va. - The Bridgewater College softball team split with Mary Baldwin on Sunday, April 7. The Eagles dropped game one 2-1 before winning game two 6-3. The win was the team's 20th of the season.
Game One: Bridgewater 1, Mary Baldwin 2
Mary Baldwin answered in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single. The Fighting Squirrels scored the winning run in the fifth on an another RBI single.
Game Two: Bridgewater 6, Mary Baldwin 3
Brooke Louden started the Eagles off with a three RBI home run in the top of second for a 3-0. It was the junior's second homer in as many games. She added another RBI in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to send Pinder home for a 4-0 advantage.
Layman made it 6-0 in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to center field, giving Katie Merhout the path to home.
Mary Baldwin scored three runs on a three RBI home run in the bottom of the sixth. That would be it for the Squirrles as the Eagles earned 6-3 win, their 20th of the season.
Mikalia Guard had two hits for the Eagles. Louden contributed four RBIs while pitching four innings allowing four hits. Keirsten Kennedy pitched the remaining three innings, allowing five hits and three runs.
Bridgewater returns to Fulk Field for three home games to close out the regular season, starting with Randolph-Macon on Tuesday, April 9. It is the Eagles Pediatric Cancer Awareness Game. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
