ASHLAND, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's basketball team will get its season underway this weekend at the Randolph-Macon Tip-Off Classic. On Friday, Randolph-Macon tips things off against Greensboro at 6:00 p.m. followed by Bridgewater vs. Methodist. Saturday's action begins with BC playing Greensboro at 2:00 p.m. followed by the Randolph-Macon-Methodist matchup.
The Eagles will be led by junior Jordan Burkholder, a second-team All-ODAC pick in 2008-09. Burkholder led the Eagles in scoring (15.2 average) and assists a year ago. Also back for the Eagles are starting forward Emileigh Lambert, guards Lacey Barnett and Jenny Logan, and forwards Kristin Bosserman, Brittani Criss and Bianca Booker.
Greensboro College finished the 2008-09 season with a program best 27-3 overall record and an 18-0 USA South mark. After capturing the USA South regular season title, The Pride advanced as far as the NCAA Tournament second round. Greensboro has earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament four out of the past five years. Three letter winners and one starter return to The Pride lineup this season and will be under the direction of new head coach Randy Tuggle. Greensboro has been picked to finish fifth in the USA South Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Preseason Poll.
Methodist College is coming of a 15-11 finish to the 2008-09 in which they finished tied for fourth in the USA South with a 10-8 conference record. The Monarchs return nine letter winners and three starters to their 2009-10 squad including their top two scorers from last season Dezzire Gilliard and Adriana Wilson. Gilliard averaged just under a double-double with 15.7 points and 9.9 rebounds a game. Methodist has been picked to finish fourth in the USA South Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Preseason Poll.
The Eagles play their first home game Tuesday, Nov. 24 when they host Averett at 5:30 p.m.
