Women’s Basketball Tabbed Fourth in ODAC Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. – After posting a 15-11 overall record during the 2011-12 season and earning a trip to the conference tournament, the Bridgewater Eagles women's basketball team was selected to finish fourth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) during the 2012-13 season in a preseason survey of the league's coaches.

Bridgewater picked up 89 total points to reside firmly in fourth place in the preseason poll, just three points out of the top three.

The Eagles return a veteran group of players to the mix after graduating just three players from last year's squad. Senior Jessica Mullen returns to the fray after earning first team All-ODAC honors during an injury-shortened 2011-12 season. The Purcellville, Va. native led the league in scoring and was tied for the conference lead in steals with 69 a year ago.

Bridgewater also returns junior guard Holly Morgan who chipped in 7.2 points per game a season ago. Aside from their returning guards, the Eagles also bring back sophomore forward Shannan Thorne who averaged 8.6 points and 7.9 boards per game last season.

Guilford was tabbed to repeat as the conference champions after hoisting the ODAC title last year with a 57-40 victory over Virginia Wesleyan. The Quakers earned eight of the possible 12 first-place votes to edge out Eastern Mennonite for the top spot. The Royals picked up the final four first place nods to comfortably sit in second place, while the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan round out the top three with 92 points. Bridgewater and Randolph-Macon complete the top five.

Bridgewater opens the 2012-13 season on November 16 at Marymount as it travels to Arlington for the Marymount Tip-Off. Tip time is set for 7:30 p.m.
