Eagles Picked 10th In Preseason Poll

Senior Kaitlyn Lehan pulled down 20 rebounds in a loss Saturday to Juniata.

FOREST, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's basketball team was picked to finish 10th in the ODAC Coaches Preseason Poll released Thursday at the conference's annual Media Day.

First-year head coach Sarah Mathews welcomes back four starters from last year's team that finished 14-12 overall. Junior guard Briana Moore is the team's leading returning scorer. Moore averaged 14.7 points per game before missing the end of the season with an injury. Senior center Kaitlyn Lehan, a third-team All-ODAC pick, is back in the middle after averaging 10 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Lehan also led the ODAC in blocked shots. Junior point guard Sydni Carey averaged 4.2 assists per contest. Junior Rebecca Harvey and senior Jessalyn Monday shared a starting spot a year ago and both return this season.

Eastern Mennonite topped the poll with 112 points and seven first-place votes, just ahead of Lynchburg with 110 points and the remaining five first-place votes.

Bridgewater opens its regular season on Nov. 15 when the Eagles travel to play Christopher Newport. The Captains, a Final Four participant a year ago, are ranked No. 2 in the Top 25 preseason poll.
