Eagles Pull Away For 80-58 Victory Over Randolph

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Briana Moore scored a season-high 25 points Saturday to spark Bridgewater to an 80-58 conference victory over the Randolph College WildCats.

Moore made 8-of-11 shots, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, in just 25 minutes to lead three players in double figures. Sydni Carey scored 12 points and Rebecca Harvey added 10 for the Eagles. 

Bridgewater closed the first quarter with a 5-1 spurt to take a 19-12 lead. A layup by Claire Mocarski put the Eagles up 16-11 and, after Randolph's Yanessa Cabrera made 1-of-2 free throws, Moore knocked down a 3-pointer, giving the Eagles a seven-point lead after one quarter.

Randolph closed to within five, 22-17, on a layup by Sara Streett, but the Eagles went on a 10-1 spurt to open up a double-digit lead. Moore hit two foul shots and then added a 3-pointer for a 10-point, 27-17, lead with 6:07 left in the half. Cabrera made 1-of-2 foul shots before Madison Baum hit a 3-pointer to put Bridgewater out front 30-18 with 4:18 left in the second quarter.

A layup by Cabrera sliced the margin under double digits, 34-25, with 1:31 left, but the Eagles outscored the visitors 9-1 down the stretch to open up a 17-point lead. Baum hit two foul shots and Moore added 1-of-2 at the line, making the score 37-25. Carey drained a long 3-pointer to make it 40-25 before Cabrera made 1-of-2 at the foul line. Rebecca Harvey converted a three-point play with just three seconds left on the clock to send the Eagles to the break with a 43-26 lead.

Bridgewater outscored the WildCats 24-14 in the third quarter to put the game away. Two foul shots by Mocarski with 54 seconds left in the third quarter gave the Eagles their biggest lead of the game, 67-37, and after three quarter the Eagles led 67-40.

Bridgewater, now 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the ODAC, returns to action Wednesday night when the Eagles travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a conference contest.
