Reggie Blackmon enters his first season as a member of the Bridgewater College women's basketball coaching staff.

For the past five seasons, Blackmon worked as an assistant women's basketball coach and recruiter at McDaniel College. While at McDaniel, Blackmon twice helped lead the Green Terror to an appearance in the conference championship game. He also helped lead McDaniel to one appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Prior to joining the McDaniel staff, Blackmon coached 14 years in the high school ranks.

Blackmon comes from a family rich in basketball tradition. His cousin, Garfield Heard, played 11 seasons in the NBA and won an NBA title as an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons in 2004. Blackmon's brother, Derek Smith, played at the University of Louisville where he won a national title in 1980. He was the Metro Conference Player of the Year in 1981, played nine years in the NBA and was an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards. His nephew Demetrius Smith played college basketball for the University of Alabama for four years and is currently the head boys' basketball coach for Pace Academy in Atlanta, Ga.  Blackmon's cousin, Nolan Smith, won a national title while playing at Duke in 2010 and was ACC Player of the Year in 2011. Smith is currently an assistant coach at Duke.

Blackmon played basketball and graduated from Howard University with a bachelor's degree in physical education. He earned a master's in exercise science and physical education from McDaniel.
