PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Bridgewater fell to 0-1-1 on the season as the Eagles dropped a 5-1 decision Saturday evening to No. 22 ranked Carnegie Mellon at the DoubleTree Tartan Cup.
The Eagles held the Tartans scoreless in the first half, limiting the host team to just four shots as the first half ended in a 0-0 deadlock.
The second half, however, was all Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans took just six shots in the second half, but five found the back of the net.
Carnegie Mellon took the lead less than one minute into the second half off a set piece. Tori Iatarola took the corner and Morgan Kontor scored off a deflection at the near post for a 1-0 Tartans lead.
At the 56:42 mark, Halli Adams made it 2-0 after taking a pass from Ryan Casey and scoring from just outside the box, making the score 2-0.
The hosts pushed the lead to 3-0 when Sienna Stritter dribbled from midfield into open space and scored on a shot from 30 yards out.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the 76th minute when Katherine Wight scored on a free kick to the near post to make it 3-1. The shot was the Eagles lone shot in the game.
Carnegie Mellon added two goals in the final three minutes for the final 5-1 margin.
The Eagles will look to pick up their first win of the season Wednesday when they travel to play Southern Virginia in a non-conference contest.
