BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Virginia Wesleyan's Alex Davidson scored the game's only goal in the 80th minute Saturday to lift Virginia Wesleyan to a 1-0 victory over Bridgewater in the semifinals of the ODAC women's soccer tournament.
The Marlins' victory denied the Eagles their second straight trip to the title game.
The Marlins held a 16-9 edge in shots while corner kicks were even at 3-3. The Eagles, however were able to put just one shot on frame compared to eight for the Marlins. Bridgewater goalkeeper Sydney Davis finished with seven saves, with five coming in the scoreless first half.
Bridgewater drops to 15-3-2 on the season. The 15 wins in the third-most in program history.
The Marlins advance to the championship game Sunday afternoon play Lynchburg at 1:00 p.m. on the BC Soccer Field. Lynchburg advanced with a 5-1 victory over Randolph-Macon.
