BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's soccer team got back on the winning side of the ledger with a 7-0 victory Monday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Eagles had played four straight matches without a win, tying two times and losing twice during the stretch.
The Eagles led 3-0 at the half over Averett and Cyan Coates had a part in all three goals.
In the ninth minute, Catherine Haufe scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Coates to put the Eagles on the scoreboard. In the 14th minute, Coates registered her second assist with a pass to Kaia Richardson for a 2-0 Eagles lead. The goal was Richardson's first collegiate goal. Coates scored the Eagles third goal of the game and the Bridgewater took the 3-0 into the halftime break.
Hanna Randolph scored early in the second half on a shot from just outside the box and Haufe added another goal on a penalty kick, making the score 5-0. Mckinsey Walter touched a ball into the net after a misplay by the Averett keeper on a ball into the box from Angel Finch, making the score 6-0. The goal was Walter's first career goal. Bridgewater scored its final goal off a corner kick. Madison Crooks sent the ball into the box and Janidy Madera scored on a heel kick for a 7-0 Eagles lead.
Megan Byle made her first start in goal and recorded the shutout.
Bridgewater held a 36-0 edge in total shots.
The Eagles, now 4-5-2 overall, are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Sweet Briar for an ODAC contest.
