LYNCHBURG, Va. - Lynchburg College defeated Bridgewater, 7-2, Wednesday in ODAC women's tennis action.
Lynchburg took control by sweeping the doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Lynchburg's Christina Harris and Sarah Wyly defeated Jamiah Lewis and Whitney Kiser 8-2. Halle Lavieri and Reagan Coon turned back Rachel Zarin and Shannon Quinn 8-1 at No. 3 doubles to put the Hornets up 2-0. At No. 2 doubles, Lynchburg's Ellen Druebbisch and Lilli Altenburg outlasted Nicole Shifflett and Stephanie Barton 9-7 to complete the sweep.
Lynchburg moved closer to the team win when Druebbisch defeated Zarin 6-0, 6-3 to win at No. 5 singles. The Hornets claimed the clinching point at No. 1 singles where Harris stopped Lewis 6-1, 6-2.
Bridgewater earned its points at No. 2 and No. 6 singles. Kiser took a straight set win over Lavieri 6-2, 6-3 to win at the No. 2 slot. Crawford rallied after losing the first set to Coon 6-3 to even the match by winning the second set 6-2. In the tiebreker to determine the winner, Crawford prevailed 10-2.
Shifflett lost in split sets at No. 3 singles to Wyly 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) and Barton lost a close match at No. 4 to Altenburg 6-4, 6-3.
