FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Members of the Bridgewater College women's tennis team are competing this weekend at the ITA Division III Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
Bridgewater's Whitney Kiser picked up a win in her first singles match in Flight B, defeating Johns Hopkins' Sophie Soland, 8-6. In her next match, Kiser lost the Amanda Ruci, also of Johns Hopkins, 8-3.
In Flight D, Bridgewater's Rachel Crawford won her first match, 8-1 over Dickinson's Neve Brennan before losing her next match to Catholic's Brooke Simonsen, 8-1. Also in Flight D, Emily Daigneault fell to Muhlenburg's Shelby Knafo 8-3.
In Flight E, Caroline Edwards lost 8-1 to Wilkes' Dana Saliyev.
In doubles action, Kiser and Shifflett won their first match in Flight B, cruising to an 8-1 win over the Virginia Wesleyan duo of Makayla Velic and Christine Zalamada. The Eagles' duo lost in the quarterfinals 8-4 to Washington and Lee's Melinda Kauffman and Maddie Hutchins.
In Flight C play, Bridgewater's Daigneault and Barton advanced to the semifinals with a 9-7 victory over Southern Virginia's Alyssa Sewell and Lauren Morrison. In Sunday's semis, the Bridgewater lost 8-3 to Virginia Wesleyan's Katie Staman and Audrey Bailey.
Also in Flight C, Edwards and Crawford dropped a close 8-5 match to Southern Virginia's Natalie Tetterton and Audrey McBride.
