HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team overcame a 2-1 doubles deficit by sweeping the six singles matches Tuesday in a 7-2 victory over Drew University.
Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett rolled to an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, but the Rangers claimed the next two points. Katie Gangi and Sarah Noel Jeune evened the score with an 8-3 win over Emily Daigneault and Alexia Will at the No. 3 slot. Drew's Marwa Elessaway and Ashley Camel defeated Bridgewater's Stephanie Barton and Rachel Crawford 8-6 at No. 2 doubles, giving Drew a 2-1 lead.
Will pulled the Eagles even with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles over Sofia Vargas Torres and Daigneault put the Eagles ahead with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Gangi. Kiser blanked Camel 6-0, 6-0 for the win at No. 1 and Shifflet scored the deciding point with a split set win at No. 2, defeating Cristina Riccio 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (10-8).
The Eagles completed the singles sweep with Barton winning 6-4, 6-1 over Christina Christodoulou at No. 3 and Crawford taking a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Elessaway.
