Women's Tennis Falls At Southern Virginia

Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett play at No. 1 doubles

BUENA VISTA, Va. - Bridgewater College dropped a 6-3 decision Tuesday to Southern Virginia in non-conference women's tennis action.

The Eagles trailed 2-1 after doubles action. Bridgewater picked up its point at No. 1 doubles where Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett edged Rachel Christensen and Rachel Neeleman 8-7 (8-6). SVU's Lauren Morrison and Audrey McBride defeated Bridgewater's Stephanie Barton and Rachel Crawford 8-2 at the No. 2 slot and Morgan Blount and Alyssa Sewell downed BC's Alexia Will and Katie Austin 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.

The Knights won the final four singles flights to clinch the match. Blount stopped Will 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Christensen defeated Crawford 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Sewell scored the clinching point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Emily Daigneault at the No. 6 slot. The Knights also won at No. 3 where Morrison took the point with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Barton.

The Eagles claimed the top two flights. Kiser took the point at the top singles slot with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Neeleman. Shifflett outlasted McBride at No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-7, 1-0 (10-5).
