Bridgewater Defeats Panthers, 7-2

The Eagles defeated Ferrum 7-2 on Sunday.

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College took a 2-1 lead after doubles action and the Eagles went on to defeat Ferrum College 7-2 Sunday afternoon in ODAC play on Mapp Courts.

Bridgewater's Stephanie Barton and Rachel Crawford were first off the court with an 8-1 victory over Alexandria Dixon and Jordan Thompson at No. 2 doubles. The Eagles made it 2-0 when Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett held off Autum Murray-Burns and Morgan Scott for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles.

The Panthers salvaged a point at No. 3 doubles where Mallory Scott and Chelsea Zizzi held off Alexia Will and Katie Austin, 8-5.
 
Bridgewater's Shifflett was first off the court in singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Murray-Burns. Barton slipped past Ferrum's Dixon 7-5, 7-6 to take the point at No. 3. Kiser scored the clinching point as she outlasted Morgan Scott 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 at the No. 1 slot.
 
Crawford took a 6-2, 6-2 win over Thompson at No. 4 singles and Bridgewater's Emily Daigneault held off Hailee Green 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) to win the match at No. 6.
 
Ferrum picked up its one singles point at No. 5 where Mallory Scott defeated Will 6-4, 6-0.
