BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Lynchburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play Saturday and the Hornets went on to defeat Bridgewater College, 7-2, in ODAC women's tennis action played on Mapp Courts.
Emily Hoang and Sarah Wyly put the visitors on the board first with an 8-4 victory over Bridgewater's Stephanie Barton and Rachel Crawford at No. 2 doubles. Christiana Harris and Caroline Guill stopped BC's Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett 8-3 for the point at No. 1 doubles. Reagan Coon andLilli Altenburg completed the Hornets' sweep with an 8-2 win over Alexia Will and Emily Daigneault at No. 3.
Coon downrd Will 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Harris scored the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kiser at the No. 1 singles slot.
Alissa Anderson held off Barton 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and Altenburg downed Daigneault 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.
Bridgewater picked up singles points at No. 2 and No. 4. Shifflett outlasted Wyly in split sets to win at No. 2 singles 6-0, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8). Crawford defeated Ellen Druebbisch 7-5, 6-3 to win at No. 4.
