Roanoke Takes 7-2 Win Over Eagles

SALEM, Va. - Roanoke swept the three doubles matches for an early lead and the Maroons went on the defeat Bridgewater, 7-2, Wednesday in ODAC women's tennis action.

Roanoke won the first point at No. 1 doubles where Jessica Kennedy and Madeline Herring stopped Bridgewater's Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett 8-2. At No. 3, Roanoke's Arabella Goralski and Kelly MacCluen downed BC's Alexia Will and Caroline Edwards 8-4. The No. 2 doubles match went to the wire as Roanoke's Janny Alvarado and Carolyn Kitsock edged Rachel Crawford and Stephanie Barton 8-7, winning the tiebreaker 7-5.

Alvarado picked up the first singles point for Roanoke, downing Will 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Crawford put the Eagles on the scoreboard with a victory at No. 3 singles over Herring 6-3, 6-2. Kitsock added the winning point with a tough 7-5, 7-5 win over Shifflett at the No. 2 slot.

Kiser added Bridgewater's other point with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles over Kennedy.

The Maroons closed out the match with wins in the final two singles flights. At No. 5 MacLuen held off Emily Daigneault 6-2, 7-5 while Goralski defeated Katie Austin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
