Eagles Defeat Sweet Briar, 8-1

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater swept the doubles matches Tuesday afternoon and then added wins in five of the six singles to defeat Sweet Briar College 8-1 in ODAC women's tennis action.

Stephanie Barton and Rachel Crawford took the first point for the Eagles with an 8-0 win over Emily Wrenn and Lexi Culley at No. 2 doubles. Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett added the next point with an 8-1 victory at No. 1 over Emily Wandling and Lacey Tucker.  Alexia Will and Caroline Edwards completed the sweep with an 8-3 win over My-Xuan Hillengas and Ruth Lechner at the No. 3 slot.

Shifflett took the first singles point for the Eagles with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Sweet Briar's Culley. Crawford scored the clinching point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lechner at the No. 4 position.

Barton rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Tucker at No. 3 while Emily Daigneault stopped Hillengas 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Will scored Bridgewater's final point with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Wrenn at the No. 5 slot.

Sweet Briar scored its lone point at No. 1 singles where Wandling turned back Kiser 6-2, 6-1.
