VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team completed play Sunday at the Marlin Invitational with singles and doubles play against Virginia Wesleyan.
In the first round of doubles play, Bridgewater won two of the three matches. At the No. 1 flight, Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett defeated Alexa Brewster and Aubree Johnson 8-5. Rachel Crawford and Alexia Will took the win at No. 3, defeating Taitum O'Brien and Amanda Stegemann by a score of 8-3.
In singles play, the Eagles won three of five matches. Kiser took a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Brewster to win the first flight. Emily Daigneault slipped past O'Brien 6-4, 6-4 to pick up the win at No. 3. At No. 4, Malena Hoover won when her opponent retired in the second set. Hoover lost the fist set 6-2 and the second set was tied at 5-5.
In a second round of doubles action, Shifflett and Will partnered to defeat Johnson Lyric Hinton 8-5 to win at No. 2 doubles.
