Sam Varner was named interim head coach of the Bridgewater men's and women's tennis teams on Oct. 20, 2013 and will lead both programs during the 2014 spring season.

Varner joined the Eagles coaching staff as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's tennis programs for the 2012-2013 season. He is a Professional Tennis Registry certified professional with several years teaching experience in the Charlottesville, Va., Washington D.C. and Richmond, Va. areas. Prior to joining the Eagles staff, Varner served as a volunteer assistant coach at Randolph-Macon College.

Along with his private work, Varner served as the head of junior development at Tennis the Gray Way in the Richmond, Va. area where he taught independent instructional lessons from 2005-11 and led USTA adult group clinics and match play.

Varner, a Charlottesville, Va., native is no stranger to the ODAC. He played four years of tennis at Randolph-Macon College and was a two-time team captain. He graduated from Randolph-Macon in 2009 with a bachelor of arts degree in history.
