Volleyball Remains Unbeaten

SALEM, Va. – The Bridgewater College volleyball team moved to 7-0 on the season with wins over N.C. Wesleyan and Greensboro on day two of the Roanoke Maroon Classic.

Game One: Bridgewater 3, N.C. Wesleyan 0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-21)

Bridgewater dominated play from the start, holding the Battling Bishops to a .052 hitting percentage over the three sets. Jessica Bissmeyer closed out the first set with a six point service run and three aces. She started the second set with another six point service run and two more aces. Bridgewater benefited from several N.C. Wesleyan attack errors in the second set to go up two sets to none.

The Eagles started the third set in the same way they ended the second, but the competition had one more push in them. N.C. Wesleyan battled back to tie the set at 15-15. A kill from Hope Jennings ended the six-point Bishop run. The teams would continue to trade points until the score was 23-21, when Madison Haynes and Sienna Sullivan put down back-to-back kills to secure Bridgewater's sixth victory of the season.

Jennings led the Eagles with nine kills followed by Haynes with five. Libero Taylor McNeely was difficult to get past as she picked up 18 digs. Emily Hanger paced the front row defense with six total blocks. Grace Hayes collected 16 assists and Bissmeyer picked up eight.

Game Two: Bridgewater 3, Greensboro (26-24, 25-12, 25-22, 25-20)

The Eagles won their seventh game of the year with a four set victory over Greensboro.

Rachel Gaston led Bridgewater with 16 kills followed by Hanger with 12 and Lisa O'Grady with 11.

McNeely continued to control the backline with 21 digs while Jyailah Friendly contributed 14. Hayes dished out 42 assists.

Bridgewater will open conference play on the road Wednesday, September 11 with a 7:00 p.m. tilt at Shenandoah.
