Women, Men Place Third At Don Cathcart Invitational

SALISBURY, Md. - The Bridgewater College men's and women's cross country teams both placed third Saturday at the 29th Annual Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University at Winter Place Park.

Calista Ariel posted a Top 10 clocking to pace the Bridgewater women to third place in the team standings, Ariel completed the 6K course in 22:28.20. The Eagles finished the event with 107 points in the team standings, just ahead of Division II Wilmington (Del.). East Stroudsburg, another D-II team placed first in the 11-team field with 37 points to defeat Salisbury with 49 points.

Jeena Rea and English Jackson were next across the line for the Eagles, finishing back-to-back in 23rd and 24th place. Rea posted a time of 23:41.67 while Jackson finished in 23:45.90.

Rounding out the scoring for the Eagles were Emily Young in 27th place and Scarlett Bavin in 35th. Young finished in 24:06.47 and Bavin crossed in 24:34.62.

Sidney Hinkle placed 45th for Bridgewater with a time of 25:25.18.

In the men's 8K event, Eagles' junior Jamie Hiegel placed second overall to lead Bridgewater to its third-place team finish. Bridgewater finished with 99 points. Salsibury placed first in the 11-team field with 28 points and East Stroudsburg took second with 56 points.

Hiegel ran the 8K course in a time of 25:24.42, just more than one second behind Salisbury's top runner David Strickland who finished in 25:23.27 to win the event.

Bridgewater junior Robert Theimer also placed in the Top 10 with a time of 25:46.73, good for eighth-place overall.

First-year runner Noah Howell was next in line in 33rd place with a time of 26:58.95. Rounding out the Eagles' scoring were Shane Gibson and Max Weidman who finished in 36th and 39th place, respectively. Gibson finished with a time of 27:06.79  while Weidman crossed the finish line in 27:17.80.

Other finishers for the Eagles included Adam Bailey who placed 40th, just behind Weidman, with a time of 27:21.97, Logan Good in 43rd with a time of 27:28.55 and Kenny Sullivan in 44th with a time of 27:29.47.
